ARE YOU UP TO THIS RIDE?

As with any physical activity - even a social bike ride – please discuss your participation with a medical professional.

EQUIPMENT CHECK LIST

Mandatory:

  • Bicycle (duh!)
  • Helmet & ID (required for bike riders in CA)
  • Lots of water to drink (bottle/s or hydration pack)

Should bring
...

  • spare tube
  • repair kit
  • tire levers
  • pump
  • cash / credit card
  • bike lock (while you eat lunch)

NOTE: If you don’t have these items and if you get a flat tire, we'll try to help you but ultimately you'll be responsible for getting yourself home.

Other things to consider bringing or wearing:

  • Bike bag or fanny pack or small back pack
  • Snacks (small and easy to carry snacks are highly recommended, e.g. fruit – dried is easy to carry; nuts; trail mix; powerbar, power gel, crackers, PBJ sandwich, etc.)
  • Electrolyte drink (Gatorade, Powerade etc.)
  • Padded bike shorts - a great investment (inexpensive shorts are often available at Performance on Brannan St. between 5th & 6th, SOMA)
  • Suitable shoes (open-toe shoes or shoes with heels are NOT recommended)
  • Jacket or arm / knee warmers (the wind can get cold, esp. near open water)
  • Gloves (to avoid blisters)
  • Camera
  • Lip balm
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Sun visor or hat (to wear WITH your helmet)
  • Cash (for lunch, and enough to pay for a taxi in an emergency)
  • Credit card
  • Cell phone (very handy in an emergency or if you get lost - but NEVER talk on the phone while riding!)
  • Medical insurance card (in case of an accident)
  • Medicine you may need (inhaler, ibuprofen etc.)
  • First aid items
  • Bike lock (to secure your bike while you eat lunch)
